Oerlikon and Deutsche Aerogel sign
letter of intent for strategic cooperation
Pfäffikon, Schwyz, Switzerland, May 26, 2025
Oerlikon and Deutsche Aerogel GmbH today signed a letter of intent for strategic cooperation. Deutsche Aerogel specializes in high-performance materials based on aerogels and ceramics, which optimally complement Oerlikon's portfolio in the field of thermoelectric insulation systems (TIS).
The German company aerogel GmbH was founded as a spin-off for research and development from deutsche aerogel GmbH in Kreuztal and has been involved in the development of highly innovative industrial products for several years. These include, in particular, production and finishing techniques in promising technological markets such as e-mobility, automotive, industrial plants, fire protection, ventilation technology, and all industrial areas where maximum thermal insulation with additional special requirements is required in confined spaces.
The core team of the company consists of the company founder, CEO/CTO, a graduate engineer, and a graduate chemist with many years of experience in the field.
For several years, we have been presenting our solutions for the industrial use of high-performance and special products at various trade fairs in Germany and abroad, such as Hannover Messe, Materialica, FeuerTrutz, IEX, and Battery Show Europe.
In collaboration with our predominantly highly innovative customers, whose products have to meet a wide range of special requirements, we have been able to establish many effective R&D partnerships. These partnerships, which draw on our expertise and diverse R&D potential, have enabled the successful transfer of new technologies to existing and new markets and, where necessary, the establishment of the required production capacities.
Comprehensive technical knowledge, high product quality, and the organization of the necessary supply chains make German aerogel GmbH the ideal partner for your new product developments.

OUR EXPERTISE FOR YOUR TECHNOLOGY
Aerogel is an extremely light and porous material that is one of the least dense solids and was originally developed for space travel. It consists of a network of tiny, interconnected particles made of a material such as silicon dioxide, aluminum oxide, or carbon. Aerogel can be produced in various forms, including solid sheets, granules, or even as a fine dust.
The remarkable properties of aerogel are its very low density, high porosity, and excellent insulation properties. Due to its porous structure, aerogel can contain up to 99.9% air, which gives it very low thermal conductivity. It is also highly resistant to thermal shock and can withstand temperatures of up to 1,200 degrees Celsius. Due to these properties, aerogel is often used in insulation applications to store or block heat and cold.
